The Area

Tunstead Cottages are at Old Farm on the outskirts of Tunstead village. In a peaceful part of rural Norfolk with views of the big Norfolk skies, farmland and fruit fields. The Horse and Groom at Tunstead is close by as is the Crown at Smallburgh.

We are only five miles from Wroxham ‘the Capital of the Broads’ with shops takeaways restaurants and pubs, plus many boat hire venues. The pretty village of Coltishall on the river Bure is close by too.

The coastal paths for long walks are nearby, and the pretty seaside towns of Cromer, Sheringham and Mundesley. There are plenty of sandy beaches to choose from on the whole of the Norfolk coast. Seal watching boat trips can be booked from Blakeney or Morston.

Norfolk wildlife Trust has reserves on the North Norfolk coast at Cley and Salthouse Marshes and five sites actually in the Norfolk Broads National Park. All are perfect for birdwatching or just beautiful spaces for long walks to clear the mind and refresh the soul. National Trust’s Blickling Hall and Felbrigg Hall are both about 25 mins drive.

Holkham Hall is slightly further towards the coast, but worth a trip even if just for the iconic beautiful stretch of beach there. Steam enthusiasts can get their fix at Sheringham and Holt’s Poppy line or Aylsham and Wroxham’s narrow gauge Bure Valley railway – you can even go on a steam train driving course there!

Our countryside cottages are so conveniently placed for enjoying the Norfolk Broads and are also handy for the children’s attractions of Bewilderwood and Wroxham barns, both are just a few minutes away. Norwich with its Castle museum, Cathedral, the Sainsbury’s Centre for visual Arts and a wonderful collection of independent shops, cafes and restaurants in ‘the lanes’ is most definitely worth a day’s visit.
